Woman faces charge in granddaughter’s dragging
A woman has been charged with endangering a child after police said she dragged her 7 year old granddaughter behind a vehicle for several hundred feet, Taylor police Capt. Don Georgens said.
Carol Ware, 47, was arrested after a witnesses reported the incident. She was booked into the Williamson County Jail and released Sunday after posting $10,000 bail, court records show. If convicted of the state jail felony, Ware faces up to two years in a state jail.
Ware had stopped her Ford Expedition at a shopping center in the 100 block of West Lake Drive in Taylor about 11:05 p.m., Georgens said. Both Ware and the 7 year old got out, Georgens said, but he was not sure whether Ware knew her granddaughter had also exited.
After Ware began driving away, Georgens said, the girl grabbed the back of the vehicle and became tangled on the bumper. He did not know how fast the SUV was traveling.
Witnesses told investigators they yelled at the woman to stop and heard the girl screaming as well, Georgens said. Ware stopped and let the girl in, he said.
Police pulled her vehicle over a short time later, and the girl was treated for injuries to her legs and feet, Georgens said.
“Accidents do happen, but there was just a little bit more to this one,” he said. “Officers … felt she was negligent.”
