Burglar Turns Snitch

October 7th, 2012

The arrest of a man accused of burglarizing a deputy’s county issued vehicle at his home has led authorities to a second suspect.

The first suspect Edward Rojas is accused of taking a body armor labeled sheriff and a scope from the vehicle parked in the 2000 block of pebble bow.

Surveillance footage from a pawnshop showed a man matching his description pawning the scope.  The footage also showed a second man pawning a GPS device.  The bexar county investigator handling the case said he turned on the device and found its home address was across the street from the deputy’s home.

He contacted the homeowner, who said the device had been stolen from his vehicle.

WAIVER OF DPS SURCHARGES FOR DWI

September 25th, 2012

Texas DPS Driver Responsibility Indigency Program

General Overview -The Texas legislature authorized the Indigency program to provide drivers the ability to comply with surcharges owed under the Driver Responsibility program and maintain driving privileges. The surcharges are not waived under this program, but are reduced.

The Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) objective for the Indigency program is to increase public safety on the roadways by ensuring drivers can become licensed and obtain financial liability insurance.

The DPS Indigency program will apply to individuals living at or below 125% of the federal poverty level as defined by the Department of Health and Human Services. Individuals may apply by completing, signing, and having notarized an affidavit.

If an individual qualifies for Indigency, it will reduce the surcharge amount owed to 10% of the total, not to exceed $250 (service fees will still apply). It will also remove suspension of driving privileges for those who qualify for the program while making payments (assuming no other restrictions are on file with DPS).

Any surcharge assessed on or after September 30, 2004 is eligible for reductions under the Indigency program provided your application is approved.

To apply-Each individual must submit the DPS approved application. The application must be completed in full and notarized prior to submission. The application is available for download HERE or you may call (866) 223-3583 and have an application sent to your address of record through our automated system. For instructions on how to fill out an application, click HERE.

Supporting Documents-Applicants must provide supporting documentation based on answers to the questions on the Indigency application. Falsified applications may result in criminal charges and prosecution.

Some examples of supporting documents:
•A 1040 for the prior tax year and include any 1099 forms related to the 1040
•The most recent two (2) months’ bank statements
•The most recent two (2) paycheck stubs from all employers
•Unemployment claims of payment or denial letter for the previous months
•Social Security Supplemental Income receipts for the previous months
•Any other documentation related to income which was listed on the Indigency application.
•Evidence of dependents if not listed on the previous documents.

NOTE- If you are an inmate and need to complete an unsworn declaration, please download HERE.

Approval-A notice will be sent to each applicant who qualifies for the Indigency reduction. The notice will provide the due date and the reduced balance owed.

Denial-If an application is denied, a letter of denial will be sent to the individual at the address listed on the most recent surcharge account.

Payment-The payment must be received by the due date or driving privileges will be suspended. If new surcharges are assessed within 90 days of approval for Indigency, those surcharges will be reduced and a letter will be sent to the individual with the new balance due. That new balance must still be paid by the original due date.

New Surcharges-If a surcharge is assessed 90 days or more from the date of Indigency approval (as listed on the approval letter), you will be required submit a new Indigency application for that surcharge. You will receive a notice of approval or denial.

Example of Poverty level as per the Health and Human Services Department:

Man Arrested In Wake Of Airport Bomb Hoax

August 25th, 2012

A man has been arrested in a bomb threat at San Antonio international airport.  While not accused in the Aug 1 st threat that shut down the airport for hours,  Jacob Zimmerle faces one count of making a terrorist threat or influencing the activities of a branch of the federal government over a 911 call.

The idiot used his friends cell phone to make the call & his number appeared on caller id.  LOL, now that’s funny!  Come on, if you plan on doing something dumb as making fake bomb threats at least plan it out, spend a little time to find a payphone or at least block caller id.

I’m not sure if he should be in jail for making the fake bomb threats or for being that dumb, either way he deserves the best criminal lawyer he can afford.  If jacob or his family would like to discuss this they can call me at 210-495-9999

Leon Valley Cop Is Charged Assault

August 25th, 2012

A leon valley police officer is free on bail but on administrative leave after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter at his Northwest Bexar County home.

Anthony Martinez was released bexar county jail after posting $15000 bail.  He faces one charge of assaulting a family member by choking or strangulation.

This is a strange story that involved family problems,  it sounds to me that a great family counselor is the medicine here and not jail time.  If you or a family member are charged with assault, or any type of family violence you should hire an experienced San Antonio lawyer immediately.

San Antonio Lawyer Charged In Billing Scam

August 25th, 2012

Facing 46 felony counts, a high profile attorney once known for garnering more indigent defense work than any other lawyer in San Antonio became a defendant herself Thursday.  She has been indicted on 46 felony counts that include forging judges signatures and double billing the county.

District Attorney Susan Reed said of the allegations, It’s every bad thing you can think a lawyer would do.  The investigation has uncovered about $120,000 in incorrectly processed vouchers.

Forger, theft and fraud are all serious white collar crimes, but when a San Antonio lawyer is charged the offense rises to a whole new level.  Not only is she facing time behind bars, but she will loose her right to practice law.

Her career is over with unless she can find an experienced white collar crime attorney in San Antonio.
